Winter and exercise can be difficult to combine. In the summer you were so glad to be outdoors but in the winter, not so much. Here are a few tips for helping you beat that winter fitness slump.

When the weather gets cold, we want to be like bears and hibernate. Unfortunately, if we sleep for 3 months there will be a major problem. So, instead of sleeping the winter away, how about we continue to get moving?
It can be hard to motivate yourself to exercise when all you want to do is cozy up, but you can do it. Exercise is just as important to the body in the winter months. In fact, because the body tends to lose heat in the winter, working out reaps that much more of a benefit to you. Your body has to work harder to stay warm, burning up more calories.

As the weather changes from warm and inviting to cold and distant, some people are affected by bouts of sadness, typically referred to as seasonal affective disorder. If you or someone you know seems to have the blues when the weather changes, here are some ways that you can work to overcome it.
Sometimes seasonal affective disorder is equated with depression but they are two very different things. For one, seasonal affective disorder, or SAD, occurs at certain times of the year, normally when there is limited amounts of sunlight. Sunlight assists in increasing the levels of serotonin in the brain. It is a neurotransmitter that affects mood. When levels drop, it can result in changes in your behavior and feelings.
The blues can jump the gap and enter into the realm of depression. If your family have a history of depression, you are more at risk to bridge that gap. Also, not addressing the reason for the blues or if it lasts longer than the season, that could reflect some sort of further chemical imbalance in the brain at work.

Tae Bo is still popular these days and offers a good basis for women to get stronger and leaner while still having fun.
